SUNDAY DRIVE
Jen Foster, Kathy Scott
She said, "You know that you had me"...
She said, "You know that you had me at goodbye...
I'm such a sucker for bad seeds...
I love a man who will take me for a ride...Let's go"...
He always took her out on Sundays
She never quite made the cut to be a Saturday Girl
He drove her way outside the city
Tryin' to head off the collision of his two worlds
She said, "Yeah, why don't we get in the car and go,
Pretend we're headed to Mexico
It'll be just like old times, don't look at me like it's a crime,
Baby, I just wanna go with you on a Sunday Drive"....
Her daddy was a Baptist preacher
He brought the car home late every Sunday night
Her mama opened up his desk drawer
He kept his secrets where he kept his 45
So Mama said, "I got your number,"
As Daddy backed against the wall with his hands up high
She said, "Now lay down in the back seat,
I'm gonna take you on one last Sunday Drive"...
She said, "Yeah, we're gonna get in the car and go,
Pretend we're headed to Mexico,
It'll be just like old times, don't look at me like it's a crime,
Baby, I am gonna take you on a Sunday Drive"....
Her Mama left her with the gun
She said, "Don't ever let anyone
Do you wrong".....
She said, "You know that you had me"...
She said, "You know that you had me at goodbye...
Now, go on, lay down in the back seat
I'm gonna take you on one last Sunday Drive....
Yeah, we're gonna get in the car and go
And then I'm heading to Mexico
On a Sunday Drive"...
EVERYTHING REWINDS ME
Jen Foster, Kathy Scott
You left a note on my bed
You left your voice in my head
You left the lights turned on
You left a key in the door
You left my heart on the floor
You left the song unsung
And I’m stuck here in the past
And you’re not coming back
Everything reminds me
Everything defines me
Everything rewinds me
Back to you, you
You left your shoes in the hall
You left your face on the wall
You left your ring in my couch
You left a cloud in the sky
You left me wondering why
You left goodbye in my mouth
And I’m stuck here all alone
And you’re not coming home
Everything reminds me
Everything defines me
Everything rewinds me
Back to you, you
You left your brush in the sink
You left some ice in your drink
You left your book by the chair
You left your smile in my eyes
You left me sleepless tonight
You left you everywhere
Everything reminds me
Everything confines me
Everything rewinds me
Back to you, you
A LITTLE HELP
Jen Foster
It’s all in the balance
And there lies the problem
In a world of huge extremes
This world of you and me
It’s all such a challenge
Thinking of the kids today
And every little thing they face
It’s not as easy as they think
With all of the darkness
We could all use a friend in the hard times
A blanket on a cold night
A prayer most anytime
We could all use
A long deep breath today
A minute just to stop and think
Before we throw it all away
We could all use a little help
It’s all too familiar
Driving down the street today
I saw a man in a rage
He hit the wheel and slammed his brakes
And I couldn’t help but wonder
How the anger takes its hold
Did a woman leave him cold
Will anybody ever know
But I know it was something
We could all use a friend in a hard time
A lover on a lonely night
A prayer most anytime
We could all use
A long deep breath today
A long deep breath today
A minute just to stop and think
Before we throw it all away
We could all use a little help
Now I’m not tryin’ to sound cliché
But isn’t peace, love, and freedom
What the world needs today?
We could all use a friend in the hard times
A blanket on a cold night
A prayer most anytime
We could all use
A long deep breath today
A minute just to stop and think
Before we throw it all away
We could all use a little help
LAST CALL
Jen Foster, Kathy Scott
Let’s just stop the pretending
I know you’ve been drinking
I know you’ve been out – it’s 3 AM
No you can’t come over
We’ve done this before
And you swore that was the last time
You keep making promises and
I keep hanging on
So it’s down to the last call
Down to goodbye
Down to the wire
Down to my last cry
It’s down to the last call
It’s up to me now
I’m hanging up this phone
I’d rather be alone
This is the last call
Here you go with the tears now
You tell me you’re sorry
I think you’re sorry for yourself
Stop yelling and screaming
It’s lost all its meaning
Go call someone else
‘Cause you can’t talk to me that way
I’m not that kind of girl
So it’s down to the last call
Down to goodbye
Down to the wire
Down to my last cry
It’s down to the last call
It’s up to me now
I’m hanging up this phone
I’d rather be alone
This is the last call
This is goodbye
This is goodbye
So it’s down to the last call
Down to goodbye
Down to the wire
Down to my last cry
It’s down to the last call
It’s up to me now
I’m hanging up this phone
I’d rather be alone
This is the last call
This is the last call
This is goodbye…
This is goodbye...
RED-HANDED
Jen Foster, Matthew Floyd, Danny Torroll
This room is clear
Of any doubt
I busted you
And you threw her out
I think you know
What I must do
Its much too late
To try to play it cool
Oh, you were caught red handed
Down in the jaw
Well you dropped her flat
And broke both of our hearts
Well you think you’re clever
Baby you’re not,
You were caught red handed
Those satin sheets
Must have felt fine
How do you sleep
When you know they’re mine
One last request
Our favorite song
Tell me did she like it
When you put it on
Oh, you were caught red handed
Down in the jaw
Well you dropped her flat
And broke both of our hearts
Well you think you’re clever
Baby you’re not,
You were caught red handed
How could you bring her into my bed
And then act surprised that I’m seeing red
I think you’re crazy in the head
You were caught red handed
Oh, you were caught red handed
Down in the jaw
Well you dropped her flat
And broke both of our hearts
Well you think you’re clever
Baby you’re not,
You were caught red handed
VENICE BEACH
Jen Foster
Hey, you say you’re looking for something you’ve never found
Well, the last time I checked I was lost and wanderin’ around
‘Cause I know just how it feels to be the best thing you ever had
But still not quite good enough to be the last one
There you go spinning all your wheels
You never know what you’ve got until you lose it
And here I am waiting all these years
You're not even here
You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, on every dance floor
At every girl you meet
You can drive out to California
And chase down all of your dreams
I’m sure you’ll find someone beautiful
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
Hey, they say that real love is completely letting go
Well, my hands are way up in the air and you’re somewhere in Arizona
Just a few more hundred miles and you’ll have everything you need
Except these arms to hold you when that lie brings you to your knees
There you go spinning all your wheels
You never know what you’ve got until you lose it
And here I am waiting all these years
You're not even here
You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, on every dance floor
At every girl you meet
You can drive out to California
And chase down all of your dreams
I’m sure you’ll find someone beautiful
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
On Venice Beach
You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, in every dive bar
At every girl you meet
And when you look out over the ocean
From the shores of Venice Beach
I know you’ll find the brightest stars
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
Oh, you’ll never find me....
Oh, you’ll never find me....
Oh, you'll never find me
Oh...
You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, in every dive bar
At every girl you meet
And when you look out over the ocean
From the shores of Venice Beach
I know you’ll find the brightest stars
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
Oh, you’ll never find me....
Oh, you'll never find me
Oh....
NOBODY TALKS ABOUT TUESDAY
Jen Foster, Kathy Scott
There we go to hide the screams
Well we all just turn up our tvs and
Pretend that nothing’s wrong
Its just another Monday night
And all the neighbors hear them fight
How could we know tomorrow she’ll be gone
And all the lights go down
And all her light went out
There she was just last week
In the schoolyard where children meet
She had sunglasses on in the pouring rain
And there I was I smiled and waved
And I took note as she turned away
I guess the clouds eclipsed my sense of shame
And all the rain came down
And all her tears came down
Nobody talks about Tuesday
Nobody wants to take the blame
Nobody talks about Tuesday
Its just too hard to speak her name
Nobody talks about Tuesday
There they came at 6 AM
With red & blue lights
And loud sirens
It was easy
‘cause he’d never hit a man
Was it me or was it fate
Who made the call that came too late
They didn’t even need an ambulance
And all the blinds went down
And all our eyes looked down
Nobody talks about Tuesday
Nobody wants to take the blame
Nobody talks about Tuesday
Its just too hard to hear her name
Nobody talks about Tuesday
And all the lights went down
And all her light went out
Nobody, Nobody
Nobody talks about Tuesday
They took that little boy away…
CLOSER TO NOWHERE
Jen Foster
Do you know who you are?
Do you ever think about it?
If you were told it’s a place
Would you drive until you found it?
Or would you turn down a street
That you know would lead to where you were before?
You call it home, but are you really sure
That’s your home?
Do you know what you want?
Have you ever reconsidered
What a trip we are on
And it’s the only ride we’re given?
If you could fly, would you try?
Would your feet stay firmly planted on the ground?
Can you explain why the only place you go
Is to waste?
Now you go to work and you work all day
You smoke and bitch on your coffee break
You tell some jokes to kill that time
Til the boss comes back and at the stroke of 5
You hit those bars, you have some drinks
You drown in all your long lost dreams
Oh no, you’re closer to nowhere
Do you know who you love?
Can you say those words with feeling?
Or when you look in those eyes
Is there someone else you’re seeing?
Do you dream of a day
You could take the love without running away?
What is it now? Do you need a little space?
Or are you wanting out?
Now you go to work and you work all day
You smoke and bitch on your coffee break
You grab that phone, rehearse those lines
Then you call home sayin’ you gotta work tonight
You hit those bars, you buy some drinks
For the first one who looks good and thinks you’re cool
You’re closer to nowhere...
You fake it so well
Nobody can tell
You buy what they sell
You’re going places....
Now you go to work and you work all day
You smoke and bitch on your coffee break
You share your plans and you swear you’ll quit
Maybe next year or the year after it
You hit those bars, you have some drinks
You take those pills, you go to sleep
You wake up someday all alone
You realize another year is gone
You’re closer to nowhere
And all these signs will be your guides
But you must pay attention
And all the lights that line the sides
Are beautiful, don’t miss them...
You’re closer to nowhere...
YOU WRECK ME
Jen Foster
She said all these years I’ve tried to make it good
I’ve given up myself just like I should
I studied up and did it by the book
But everything comes crashing down
The second that you come around
You wreck me, you mess me up
You wreck me, you mess me up
You wreck me, you mess me up
You wreck me, you mess me up…
She said tell me how together comes apart
And tell me how to stop it when it starts
She said tell me how an angel steals a heart
Of all the pieces you could take
You took the one that makes or breaks
You wreck me, you mess me up
You wreck me, you mess me up
You wreck me, you mess me up
You wreck me, you mess me up…
And I see your headlights calling me
Oh, I can’t move
No there’s nothing I can do
Nothing I can do
You wreck me
You mess me up….
(There’s nothing I can do, yeah)
POET
Jen Foster, Kathy Scott
I was a novice without a trade
You were an orphan without a name
I was a fighter you couldn't train
And you the flyer on higher planes
I was the secret you couldn't keep
And you the keeper who held the key
I was a criminal out on the streets
And you the lawyer defending me
Of all of the things I could do
I made a fool out of you
With every lie you believed
You made a poet out of me
I was the writer of careless words
And you the reader who finally learned
I'm just a liar in love with love
And you the dreamer just waking up
Of all of the things I could do
I made a fool out of you
With every lie you believed
You made a poet out of me
You're the rain and you're the skies
And I'm a thousand half-ass lies
It's painful but it's true
And I'm the only fool I see
Ain't that a twisted irony?
A different point of view...
TAKING BOB DYLAN (REVISITED)
Jen Foster, Kathy Scott
The black and white picture
Taken by a stranger
Out in the streets of New Orleans
The blanket I stole from that hotel in London
You asked if I thought I was the Queen
And my big blue sweater - you made it look better
Is folded in the corner of your suitcase
You’re taking everything,
You’ve got my heart on a string
Just tell me where we are going
All I am is where you are
And I never knew you could go so far
All I have is in your heart
You took me with you, you took me with you
The broken wine bottle
That fell off our mantle
We couldn’t stand to throw that sweet memory away
The book by Fitzgerald that I bought for your birthday
Is packed in a box with my love letters you saved
And you’re taking Bob Dylan, oh, the times must be changing
Maybe you’ll listen as you’re driving away
You’re taking everything,
You’ve got my heart on a string
C’mon tell me where we are going
All I am is where you are
And I never knew you could go so far
All I have is in your heart
You took me with you, you took me with you
Those shells from the ocean,
That one yellow rose and
The incense and candles and your old tambourine
Your sweatshirt from college,
That painting that you wanted
And I’ll take the promise that you could not keep….
All I am is where you are
And I never knew you could go so far
All I have is in your heart
You took me with you, you took me with you
You’re taking Bob Dylan….
Tell me how does it feel?
