THE LEAST I CAN DO

J. Foster

As you lay still in your bed

I stare at the lines on your face

I think of the stories they tell –

You came such a long way

So let me take your hand in mine

And get you anything you need

Because if we switched places right now

I know you’d do the same for me

You held my very life in your hands

Cradled me in your arms

You taught me how to love without condition

You made me see right from wrong

Now you’re laying helpless in this bed

You say I’ve done enough for you

Well after all you have done

It’s the least I can do

I know I wasn’t easy to raise

I tested you a time or two

But every time I lost my way

You pointed me to the truth

So would you let me read to you a while

Or I can sit quietly by

I’m guessing all you really need to know

Is I’m right here by your side

You held my very life in your hands

Cradled me in your arms

You taught me how to love without condition

You made me see right from wrong

Now you’re laying helpless in this bed

You say I’ve done enough for you

Well after all you have done

It’s the least I can do

You held my very life in your hands

Cradled me in your arms

You taught me how to fight for my convictions

You told me to sing my songs

Now you’re laying helpless in this bed

You say I’ve done enough for you

Well after all you have done

It’s the least I can do

After all that you have done

It’s the least that I can do…
